Brassanthe Maikai 'Mayumi' CCM/AOS (Brassavola nodosa x Guarianthe bowringiana) is an exquisite primary hybrid that showcases a harmonious blend of its parent plants' genetic traits. Renowned for its stunning blooms and vigorous growth, the 'Mayumi' variety is a compact grower that quickly develops into a specimen plant, making it a must-have for every orchid collector.

The 'Mayumi' variety boasts vibrant lavender-pink flower clusters with darker markings on the lip, creating a striking contrast that maintains its intensity without fading as the flowers age, unlike other Maikai hybrids. The blossoms emit a delightful fragrance at night, enhancing their allure. Typically blooming around Christmas and again in the spring, this orchid adds a splash of color and fragrance during these seasons.

Growth and Care Tips:

  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light to ensure healthy growth and vibrant blooms. A south or east-facing window is ideal, but avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the potting medium is nearly dry. Brassanthe Maikai prefers to dry out slightly between waterings. During the growing season, increase the frequency of watering, and reduce it in the winter.
  • Humidity: Maintain a humidity level of 50-70% to mimic its natural habitat. Use a humidity tray or a room humidifier if necessary.
  • Temperature: This orchid thrives in intermediate to warm temperatures. Aim for daytime temperatures between 70-85°F (21-29°C) and nighttime temperatures between 55-65°F (13-18°C).
  • Potting Medium: Use a well-draining orchid mix, such as bark or a bark-perlite mix, to provide proper aeration to the roots.
  • Fertilization: Feed with a balanced orchid fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season. Dilute the fertilizer to half the recommended strength to avoid root burn. Reduce feeding during the dormant period in winter.

Cultivating Brassanthe Maikai 'Mayumi':

  • Repot every 2-3 years or when the potting medium starts to break down. Repotting is best done in the spring, just after blooming.
  • Keep an eye out for pests like spider mites, aphids, and scale. Treat infestations promptly with appropriate insecticidal soap or neem oil.
  • Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal diseases and promote healthy growth.

This is a blooming size imported bare root orchid division; newly repotted in a 4" or 5" pot; about 1 to 2 years to bloom; Grown from seed; Limited!

Brassanthe Maikai 'Mayumi' is not only easy to grow but also incredibly rewarding, offering a profusion of beautiful, fragrant blooms that will delight any orchid enthusiast. With its robust nature and stunning appearance, it is sure to become a cherished addition to your collection.
