Introducing Ascocentrum miniatum, a stunning orchid species native to the lush landscapes of Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Java, and the Philippines. Known for its vibrant blooms and compact size, this miniature monopodial orchid is a delight to cultivate for orchid enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Description: Ascocentrum miniatum features a thick, straight stem adorned with two rows of rigid, dark green leaves. These leaves, measuring between 5 to 20 cm in length and 1.0 to 1.5 cm in width, boast a unique V-shaped cross-section and serrated edges. The plant blooms year-round, with a peak in April to June, showcasing bright red-orange to yellow-orange flowers on sturdy, straight spikes measuring 10 to 25 cm in length. Each inflorescence produces numerous flowers, each with a diameter of 1.2 to 1.5 cm, lasting for two weeks or longer.

Cultivation Tips:

Light: Ascocentrum miniatum thrives in filtered or diffused light, requiring a light level of 25000-35000 lux. Avoid direct sunlight, especially during the midday hours, and ensure consistent ventilation.

Temperature: This orchid species prefers thermophilic conditions. Provide average temperatures ranging from 27-34°C during the day and 12-22°C at night, maintaining a daily temperature difference of 7-18°C.

Humidity: Maintain high humidity levels of 80-85% during summer and autumn, gradually decreasing to 60% during the winter and early spring months.

Substrate and Repotting: Ascocentrum miniatum can be mounted on cork or tree fern rootstock, requiring high humidity and daily watering, especially in hot, dry weather. Alternatively, it can be grown in pots or baskets using a loose, fast-drying substrate composed of medium-sized bark pieces, perlite, and charcoal to promote breathability and prevent moisture retention.

Watering: Water generously from late spring to autumn, ensuring that the roots dry out quickly after watering to prevent waterlogging. Reduce watering gradually in autumn after new growth matures.

Fertilization: During active growth, fertilize weekly with 1/4 to 1/2 of the recommended dose of balanced orchid fertilizer. Adjust fertilization based on environmental conditions and growth patterns.

Rest Period: In winter, reduce watering, allowing the substrate to partially dry between waterings while avoiding complete drying out. Adjust fertilization accordingly and resume more abundant watering in spring with the onset of new growth.

This is a blooming size imported bare root orchid; newly repotted in a 3" basket; about 1 to 2 years to bloom; Grown from seed; Limited!

Ascocentrum miniatum is a delightful addition to any orchid collection, offering year-round blooms and relatively manageable care requirements when provided with the right environmental conditions. Cultivate this miniature beauty and enjoy its vibrant colors and graceful blooms throughout the seasons.
