Light: Phalaenopsis amboinensis usually need less light compared to other houseplants. We recommend placing them somewhere that receives morning light, but remember to keep them out of direct afternoon sunlight.

Temperature and Humidity: These orchids are native to Indonesia, which is hot and humid (80-90 degrees F and 70-90% humidity), but they are also tolerant to indoor conditions. Inside, do not let the temperature drop below 60 degrees F and try to keep your humidity levels above 60%. You may need to add some sphagnum moss around the roots to help retain moisture. As you care for your orchid, know that rapid temperature changes can damage Phalaenopsis amboinensis. Keep them in an area that does not see big temperature swings and is not drafty.

Water: While watering frequency will vary depending on growing conditions, expect to water every week or two. Thoroughly water the plant, ensuring all roots receive moisture. Using a spray bottle can be helpful. In between watering, let the substrate dry out well before watering again. Like most plants, brown/mushy roots are a sign of overwatering. Grey/shriveled roots are a sign of under watering.

Flowering: Phal amboinensis is a sequential blooming orchid, meaning the same stem will continue to flower in succession. You do not need to cut off the flower spike on these orchids because they will continue to bloom on the same stem. Cutting the stem will not encourage more growth.
