This captivating variety belongs to the intergeneric Arthurara, which includes Brassia, Miltonia, Oncidium, and Rhynchostele. Known for its dramatic, leopard-spotted elongated flowers and striking dark purple centers, this orchid boasts long, spindly blooms that have earned it the affectionate nickname "spider orchid." Perfect for beginners, the Arthurara Sea Snake 'Unforgettable' is a rewarding addition to any orchid collection, producing multiple 2-3" blooms on each flower spike that last 2-3 weeks and can bloom twice a year.
Cultivating Tips:
For optimal growth, use a fine bark or coarse mix with long-fiber sphagnum moss as your potting medium and repot every 1-2 years in Spring. Position the plant in bright indirect to medium light, avoiding direct sun exposure to prevent leaf burn. Water it frequently during hot months, about once or twice a week, allowing the media to dry out slightly between waterings.
This plant thrives in intermediate to warm conditions, with night temperatures no lower than 50°F and day temperatures up to 90°F. It prefers humidity levels between 40-80%, though it can tolerate lower levels.
During Spring and Summer, feed the plant heavily with a 1/2 strength urea-free fertilizer every other watering, flushing the pot monthly to avoid salt buildup. In Winter, reduce fertilizing to once a month.
This is a blooming size in a 4" pot, about 1 to 2 years to bloom, grown from seed, limited!
With its spectacular blooms and manageable care requirements, the Arthurara Sea Snake 'Unforgettable' is an unforgettable addition to any orchid enthusiast's collection.
